How do I start?

Make things happen

There are many people (including nurses) who have a great business idea, who want to make it as a successful entrepreneur, and who have the passion to support their journey and then … nothing!

I have worked with many nurses who give up before they even start. Reasons include;

  • I’m not good enough
  • I don’t know if this will work
  • There’s too much to do and I don’t know where to start
  • I want to make sure I have everything I need
  • It’s (I’m) not good enough
  • Who would want to buy my … services/products/ideas?
  • I’m still working on it (and guess what – five years later they’re “… still working on it”)
  • I have to make sure everything is perfect first
  • I’ll do it when … my kids graduate/leave home, when I can afford to, when work really gets too much for me, when I have learnt everything I need to know

And the reasons (excuses) keep coming.!

The reality is; there is never going to be a perfect time and you will never get to the stage when everything is perfect. If you wait until you have everything ready, then you will never start.

I was recently talking to a nurse who has a great idea for business and she is really excited about the possibilities about where this could take her. When I asked her when she was going to start, she said “When I have everything ready!” now that sounds fair enough until I asked her how long she had had that idea and she said “Oh, about ten years. I have worked on it, but every time I do something, I think of something else I also need to do”.

We talked further and it soon became apparent that she really thought that everything had to be perfect before she even thought about taking the first step. We discussed her fears and what she could do to “test the waters” to see if her business idea was something that people even wanted. She has now decided to start a Facebook group and blog to start talking to people and offering her services on a small scale before she launches her business. That way she gets a little taste of what works and what doesn’t, and she also keeps working while she starts.

So the real question is – “what is stopping you from getting your business ready today?”

What do you need to do to make the decision to get yourself ready (e.g. I will develop a business plan, get everything ready and launch my business in three months’ time, no matter what!)

Remember the NIKE™ slogan “just do it”. The biggest regret that I hear time and time again is “I wish that I had done this (started my own business) sooner”.
Nothing will change unless you take the first step. Often this is talking to someone who “has been there, done that”!. Contact us at “Nurse Biz Solutions” and see what we can do together to “Make it happen”.
